STATEMENT FROM THE OVERSIGHT BOARD REGARDING THE PUERTO RICO DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICES’ REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REGARDING NOEL ZAMOT

(San Juan, PR – March 20, 2019) – The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico voluntarily provided the Puerto Rico Department of Justice today with contact information of Noel Zamot, the Oversight Board’s former Revitalization Coordinator.

The Oversight Board believes that several senior officials of Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares’s administration already possess Mr. Zamot’s contact information, which the Department of Justice had requested to obtain on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. The nature of Mr. Zamot’s previous duties included close cooperation with the Government.

Although the Department of Justice does not have the authority to issue a subpoena against the Oversight Board, the Oversight Board decided to voluntarily provide the requested information on a confidential basis subject to a full reservation of the Oversight Board’s rights, including the right to challenge any subpoena.

The Oversight Board continues its work to improve fiscal transparency and balanced budgets, restore Puerto Rico’s access to capital markets, and attract private capital to the island. Those are the priorities the Oversight Board is pursuing in the interest of fostering prosperity for the people of Puerto Rico.
