Oversight Board Holds Second Economic Forecast Symposium

Strengthening consensus on Puerto Rico’s economic outlook to support future fiscal and budget decisions

San Juan, PR – February 1, 2026 – The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico announced that it will host the 2026 Economic Forecast Symposium on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, 9:30 a.m. AST (8:30 a.m. EST) at El Capitolio, Salón Leopoldo Figueroa in San Juan.

The event, now in its second year, will provide the Oversight Board, the fiscal team of Governor Jenniffer González Colón, and members of the Legislative Assembly, including the respective leaders of the House and Senate Budget and Ways and Means Committees, with an overview of the economic outlook for the United States and Puerto Rico.

The objective of the symposium is to assist the Oversight Board, the Legislature, and the Executive in reaching a consensus on Puerto Rico’s economic outlook that will inform and guide fiscal and budget planning. The Government and the Oversight Board will hear different perspectives and views on the Puerto Rico and U.S. economies as a crucial element to establish a transparent and public macroeconomic forecast as part of Puerto Rico’s fiscal transformation and reformed financial planning processes.

“As economic conditions continue to evolve, this symposium offers a clearer perspective on where Puerto Rico stands today and how the Island can navigate the current economic landscape. By bringing together diverse economic viewpoints, the 2026 Symposium will help the administration, the Legislature, and the Oversight Board better understand current economic and policy risks as they work together to build the government’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year,” said the Oversight Board’s Executive Director Robert F. Mujica, Jr.

“Open and transparent dialogue is critical for responsible budget and fiscal planning decisions,” Mujica said. “Diverse economic perspectives help ground fiscal decisions in data, credibility and longterm sustainability, making it a key element of Puerto Rico’s ongoing fiscal transformation.”

The presenters are:

  • Michael Zdinak, Economics Director, S&P Global Market Intelligence
  • Gustavo Rojas-Matute, Assistant Director, Moody’s Analytics
  • Leslie Adames, Director, Analysis and Political Economy division, Estudios Técnicos
  • Xavier Diví, Director, V2A Consulting
  • José Caraballo Cueto, Economist and Professor of the University of Puerto Rico.

The experts will share their analyses and projections on current and emerging economic conditions in Puerto Rico and the United States. The discussions will address key issues, including tax revenues, economic trends, and financial markets, to strengthen Puerto Rico’s budget development and financial policy decisions.

The symposium is open to the public and will also be livestreamed in English and in Spanish here. A recording will be posted shortly after the meeting in the Videos section of the Oversight Board’s website.
